New Day
Hallie
I’m still here.
Through all this. When the end of days came
And gone.
I’m still here.
When the heat became too much
And the trash melted into my layers.
Green phones and plastic bags.
Old receipts and just-thrown-out bed frames
And paints in tubes.
When the water flowed away without me leaving
Sand where there wasn’t sand.
I used to be dirt, here.
I used to lay my back in water, here.
See over there,
Crops used to grow, there.
The roots were in my soil.
The sky is dirty and I forget blue but I see
Blue in my mind like shadows.
In my mind, I am above myself.
I am blue
Against space.
My skin is so dry,
The humans used to make lotion.
Lotion came in bottles. Soda bottles,
Ketchup bottles.
Bottles of detergent.
And the trash melted into my layers.
I think I’m still here.
No one is around
Except those few who yell all day.
I think I’m still here. But where is the blue.
I hear blue like shadows.
Through all this. When the end of days came
And gone.
I’m still here.
When the heat became too much
And the trash melted into my layers.
Green phones and plastic bags.
Old receipts and just-thrown-out bed frames
And paints in tubes.
When the water flowed away without me leaving
Sand where there wasn’t sand.
I used to be dirt, here.
I used to lay my back in water, here.
See over there,
Crops used to grow, there.
The roots were in my soil.
The sky is dirty and I forget blue but I see
Blue in my mind like shadows.
In my mind, I am above myself.
I am blue
Against space.
My skin is so dry,

And the trash melted into my layers.
