for James Tate
Want to make you laugh, then break your heart automatically. Such activities can be rewarding. You won’t fit me into a square little box. My narrative is ever expanding. We are beyond understanding. We all want to step out of this tired life, but evidence disputes such miracles. Ultimately, it’s what life is all about. Universal frailty and indecision: perplexed, befuddled, trapped, & somehow stuck in-between. Fear and anxiety over something unknown, you didn’t see coming. Let’s pretend it’s all imaginary. The problem is that we don’t belong to any place, any tradition. Life is a small town, wherever you are. You experience hideous upheaval, reversals of expectations, wonder what happens next. This world spins out of control: we become people undreamed, speaking an evolved hard slang. You can’t do anything about it. We push it to the extreme, seeking to learn along the way. Silence crouches in, tension keeps things moving, We concentrate on overhearing others. It’s poignant to realize how crazy this world is, how you must never give in. The challenge is to avoid the tears, have fun with the daily horror. Let’s have a good day if we can. |
