Camp at Dawn
Anne Britting Oleson
Before the others wake, you slip
into the water without a splash,
cleave the cool clearness.
What does it mean, this
daybreak welcome, the softness
which knew of your coming,
but only had to wait
for night and dark to retreat
and give you up?
Held back no longer, you rest
and sink, let the water close
over your skin, let it own you.
into the water without a splash,
cleave the cool clearness.
What does it mean, this
daybreak welcome, the softness
which knew of your coming,
but only had to wait
for night and dark to retreat
and give you up?
Held back no longer, you rest
and sink, let the water close
over your skin, let it own you.
